Speech of the President of Republic of Kazakhstan, N.A.Nazarbayev, at the Economic Forum in St.-Petersburg, Russian Federation.Open Address by the Coordination Council of the “Eurasia Economy Club of Scientists” Association
The end of the last year and beginning of the current 2009 year are marked with series of international summit meetings with a view to develop regulation measures against the global economic crisis. There are G-20 Summit (Washington, the USA, the 15th of November, 2008), Forum of Asia and Europe countries, Colloquium on “New World, New Capitalism” (Paris, France the 8-9th of January, 2009), and the World Economic Forum (Davos, Switzerland, the 28th of January – the 1th of February, 2009). Public officials, heads of international organizations, the representatives of business and academic communities have been actively working on shaping the policy for future financial and economic system. However, we still do not have a strategy for overcoming the global financial problems as it was mentioned at the last Davos Forum. Meanwhile, according to UN forecasts, the world GDP in 2009 will only make 1%. The OECD experts forecast that the gross domestic product for its 30 member countries would decline during 2009-2010. International Labor Organization (ILO) has been predicting increase in the number of unemployed by 50 million people. By the initiative of the President of the Republic ofKazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Association “Eurasian Economic Club of Scientists” (EECS) was established in spring 2008. The aim of the association is to consolidate the efforts of the researchers-economists of the world to develop recommendations for economic and social issues. As the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev notes, the efforts of the world community “have developed new global, however, very specific market. This is the market of global recipes and plans for overcoming the world crisis, the market of “keys” from the crisis. But in the meantime demand in this market is outgoing supply.” In this situation the Coordination Council of the Association “Eurasian Economic Club of Scientists” urges the world academic community of researchers and experts to unite their efforts in developing an efficient and innovative way for surmounting the world economic and financial crisis. The II Astana Economic Forum “Economic safety in Eurasia in the system of global risks” that will take place on March 11-12, 2009 in Astana will become a platform for in-depth discussion of submitted proposals and specific practical recommendations. We invite you to take part in the II Astana Economic Forum. In case you will not be able to participate in the Forum you are invited to join the Internet-Forum on the above mentioned theme that will be held on March 1-10, 2009 (please see the web-site www.economyclub.info) The best recommendations for overcoming the global economic crisis will be included in the open letter to G-20 Summit and awarded a prize of the Association “Eurasian Economic Club of Scientists”.
